Our family travel series continues with Valley-based boy mom and lifestyle contributor Nadine Bubeck (Mama B.). Every month, Nadine showcases a fabulous destination- providing five things about visiting the hot spot.
Summer equals road trip season for many Valley families! I hear Laguna Beach calling your name…
Where to stay:
Surf and Sand Resort is an oceanfront oasis flaunting a Mediterranean feel. The beachy guestrooms are AH-MAZING… upon walking in your room, you’re greeted with endless ocean blue; breathtaking views.
Rooms are plush, open and airy, decorated with a tranquil twist of sass and sophistication. (Plus, everything is to the nines and very comfy.)
The best part: your kids can “camp” on the floor- in other words, accommodating staff will pitch kid tents, provide sleeping bags, and even package s’mores upon request. It’s awesome.
Where to play
You really don’t need to leave the resort. There’s a great beachfront pool for splashing, and the property is walking distance to shops and eateries. When you visit Laguna, the main attraction is footsteps from the Surf and Sand… the sand itself.
Right outside the resort is a lovely Laguna-esque beach. My kids played in the sand for hours, in addition to chasing the waves. There’s also a rocky area for climbing and picturesque photo-opps. Play all day, watch the sunset at night. A perfect vacation.
Where to feast:
Amidst the Surf and Sand property is a coffee shop- that’s where we did breakfast. (Cereal, baked goods, and morning pick-me-ups galore.) However, for dinner (or even lunch), you’ll want to reserve a table at Splashes… and make sure you request something outside- the views are phenomenal! (Tip: book around sunset.) Parents will have plenty to feast on (I got the lobster bisque and scallops), and there’s an A+ menu for kids.
What to bring:
Sand toys! Sure, you can buy them in Laguna, but I’d suggest bringing your own. Remember to pack all the beach basics: suits, sunscreen, hats, etc… and something warm for chilly beach evenings.
Shop specials! This summer, the Surf and Sand is offering a “Gramping” package that includes a one-night stay, playing cards, an area discovery map and more. Would also suggest the “Family Fun” package consisting of a resort credit and treats for the kiddos.
