Summer Hair Care

As we come out of the dry winter months, preparing ourselves for the harsh HOT summer months ahead is vital. Prepping your hair and giving it extra T.L.C. is especially important in the Arizona climate.  Did you know just being in the sun for 10 mins can fade your hair color up to 30% quicker?  Keeping the cuticle hydrated and the hair shaft healthy will help keep your color last longer.

Now not all hydration treatments are created equal, as there are things to take into consideration, such as type of hair, type of damage.

Type of Damage: is this normal everyday wear-n-tear from blow-drying and harsh sun, or is this from chemical services gone wrong or are you a platinum blonde?  Once you have established your moisture needs you can then try one of these two great DIY Treatments below.

If you just need some quick Hydration from normal blow-drying and flat ironing then this DIY conditioning Treatment is Amazing for hydration and can be done as often as needed and applied to the scalp.

Avocado Hydration Mask

Makes enough for thick, shoulder-length hair (double it for longer hair)

1 ripe avocado, pitted and scooped out

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons honey

2-3 drops lavender essential oil (optional)

Bowl and hand-mixer or stand-mixer

Hair clip (for longer hair)

Shower cap

Hair dryer or a sunny day

In a small mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, add in the avocado, olive oil, honey and essential oil. Whip on high until light in color and smooth.

Dampen hair with water. Spread mask onto hair, paying particular attention to the ends (feel free to rub it in a bit). Clip your hair onto the top of your head, cover with shower cap, and heat—either using a hair dryer for 15 minutes or by sitting in the sun for 30-45 minutes.

Remove shower cap, rinse out mask, and then wash and condition hair as usual.

If your hair is more compromised say from being blonde or a chemical service gone wrong then try this DIY Conditioning treatment.
