This month, we are sharing a Q&A with local resident and small business owner, Kristen Shroyer. Shroyer is CoFounder ONEHOPE Wine and Executive Director of the ONEHOPE Foundation
1. What is ONEHOPE Wine?
Built on hope and rooted in purpose, ONEHOPE is a Napa Valley winery founded on the simple idea that giving back is good business. The company launched in 2007 on a mission to change the world by sharing wine and giving hope to nourish the future. Together with our inspiring 6,000+ Cause Entrepreneurs, ONE HOPE has proudly donated over $5.7 million which has funded over 3 million meals to children in need, planted an entire forest in Indonesia, built three schools in the developing world to provide quality education for thousands of children, and so much more. Through our company’s wine fundraisers, we are democratizing the Napa Valley wine tasting experience – and empowering consumers to support the causes that matter most to them through wine. ONEHOPE is also served by the glass at over 10,000 restaurants and hotels. In Arizona specifically, you can try it at any Sauce Pizza & Wine and Top Golf location.
Thirteen years ago, when I was right out of college from the University of Arizona and selling wine in grocery stores in California, my fellow Co-Founders and I noticed hundreds of cause marketing campaigns during the month of October to support Breast Cancer Awareness month. At the end of the month, everything went away, but the need to support Breast Cancer research certainly did not. We thought, why limit your giving to one month? Why not have giving at the core of your business? Additionally, wine is a special product. It brings people together, and allows us to connect. Giving through wine and conversations is powerful.
3. What are the brands short-term goals?
We are opening our flagship winery in Rutherford, the heart of Napa Valley in the coming weeks. Next door to iconic brands like Robert Mondavi and Staglin, our state-of-the-art winery and tasting room will further our mission to change the world with wine.
4. Long term goals?
As our community and brand continues to grow, so does our impact on the world. As Executive Director of the ONE HOPE Foundation, I’m excited to exponentially grow our impact to help solve some of the world’s biggest problems, including providing better access to clean drinking water, access to nutritious and sustainable food, quality education and healthcare services.
5. If you could go back and make a change with your business, what would it be and why?
Starting this company at just 23 years old, I certainly made my fair share of mistakes and learned so much. But to be honest, it’s hard to look back and want to change anything about our business. We’ve always let our purpose drive our decisions, and therefore we really have no regrets.
6. Any additional thoughts you’d like to share?
I’m born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, and am a proud 4th generation Arizona native. After co-founding and launching ONEHOPE in Southern California, I moved back to Arizona in 2008 to help launch a new market for our brand – and have been living here ever since (because I love Arizona, it’s hard for me to ever leave!). I reside in Scottsdale with my husband, Brad, and our two young daughters.
