The holiday season is upon us and for budding business owners and entrepreneurs, there may be no better time to start a new venture than now. Starting a business during the holidays will allow you to stay focused on what some of your goals are that you would like to accomplish starting in 2018. It’s very easy to get sidetracked with all of the hustle and bustle that comes along with the holidays. Many of us lose sight on where it is we want our passions and our purpose to take us.
During the holidays people are more inclined to purchase goods so if your business has any tangible offerings this would be the time to take full advantage of the purchasing power. If your offerings are not tangible, such as a service, you can offer packages and market them as holiday specific offerings.
In addition, there are plenty of holiday sales for a budding business owner which means it is a great time to pick up home office supplies: your desk, your chairs or even business equipment such as your printer or even a computer. Make sure you save your receipts as many of you will be able to take advantage of business tax credits. You will want to double check with your tax professional on all the tax advantages available to those with an EIN (Employer Identification Number).
So what if you don’t know where to start, what should be your first steps? Just like the naughty or nice Christmas list we used to write as children, create a pros and cons business list. On the top of your paper write down your business idea and then draw a line down the center of your page. Then take a moment to look at the big picture, narrowing down what would work and what may not work for you and your business. Your imagination will be sparked, you will work hard on just this creative process but in the end it will help make you a smarter and more savvy business owner. So raise a glass, toast to a creative spark and the potential of what could be in the coming year.
