This month, Voices for CASA Children is partnering up with the Arizona KIDS Consortium for a day of running and regalement. For the fifth year in a row, Voices for CASA is hosting the Superhero Family Fun Run & Festival. On April 15th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Kiwanis Park (5299 S. Ash Ave, Tempe, AZ 85283), parents and kids are able to enjoy food trucks, carnival games, a bouncy house, and much more. Mingle with super villains, make arts and crafts, and test your speed in the kids dash. The adult 1k race will begin at 10:15 a.m., while the kid’s dash will start at 11:30 a.m, so be sure to bring your running shoes!
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and both organizations strive to protect Arizona’s kids. Voices for CASA Children coordinates organizational support for the Maricopa County CASA Program. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA Volunteers) are volunteers sanctioned by Maricopa County Courts who support at-risk foster children in search of a forever home. These volunteer advocates spend time with the kids one on one, and are able to give judges a more accurate picture of the child’s life. As a result, a judge has accurate information regarding the child’s needs, and can make a more informed decision that is in the best interest of the child. The continued work of CASA Volunteers makes it easier for children to receive the developmental services they need and maintain some stability, despite an otherwise difficult situation.
The Consortium coordinates the recruitment of foster and adoptive homes in Maricopa County, and is comprised of nearly 30 licensing agencies contracted with the Department of Child Safety. The Consortium aims to collaborate as agencies and with community partners to provide quality foster and adoptive homes to improve the well-being of youth in foster care. Additionally, representatives of the KIDS Consortium will be in attendance to answer questions about foster licensing.
This fun event is for families, and kids of all ages and all are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero. Kids get in for free, while admission for adults is $10. All proceeds from the event will go to foster youth summer programs in Maricopa County, and your direct participation will benefit more than 10,000 local foster children.
